Victoria
2010, untreated sheet brass, screws, H 17 x W 50 x D 19.5 cm
Two 2mm thick raw brass plates with the outline of Lake Victoria, arranged in the corner of the ceiling at first glance looking like a water stain.
Victoria is a sculptural work mounted in the right angle between ceiling and wall. For this work, the silhouette of Lake Victoria (originally Lake Ukerewe) in Africa was cut from untreated sheet brass and split into two halves. Viewed from a distance the work looks like a water stain; it is only on closer inspection that one recognizes the silhouette of this historically significant body of water.
